The Things You Can’t Book Online

If you’re a photographer, we travel with a specialist who helps you nail light, composition, and settings, then edits with you at night.
When to Go, and How to Book It Right
Uganda is a year-round destination, but luxury clients usually pick June to August or December to February. Dry trails in Bwindi mean easier trekking. Clear skies in Murchison mean better photography. Lodges with 12 rooms fill 6 to 8 months out, especially Clouds and Bwindi Lodge.
If you want value, go in the green season, March to May or October to November. Rates drop 20 to 30 percent. The forest is greener, migratory birds are in, and you’ll have trails to yourself. You still get luxury, just without the peak-season price.

On Arrival: You’re Met, Not Waiting
Entebbe Airport: Fuga tours team with name board, cold water, welcomes you
Domestic Flights: Aerolink to Murchison or Kisoro. Fuga staff meets you at the airstrip. Bags go straight to the lodge. You don’t carry them.
Road Transfers: Private 4×4 Landcruiser only. No sharing. Vehicle has: leather seats, charging ports, WiFi router, fridge with drinks, binoculars, scopes, field guides, blankets, and a Fuga guide who knows birds/calls, not just “that’s a giraffe.”
In the Field: Specialist Guides, Not Drivers
This is the number 1 difference between midrange and luxury in Uganda.
Specialist Knowledge: Your guide is a trained bird guide, wildlife tracker, or photographer. He carries a scope, knows Shoebill territories by week, and can ID a bird by call at 5:30am.
Private Vehicle Always: One vehicle = your group only. You stop as long as you want for a Shoebill. You leave when you’re done, not when 6 others are tired.
Pacing: Dawn birding 6-10am, back for brunch and rest, out 4-7pm. Midday heat in savannah or mud in forest = lodge time. You’re not pushed 12 hours/day.
Gorilla/Chimp Access: Private ranger team. You set the pace on the trek. No rushing past other groups. 1 hour with gorillas is yours alone if you booked private.
Photography Support: Guide carries beanbags, knows light angles, helps with camera settings. Fuga can add a pro photo guide for $180/day.
